Be careful of yellow skid proof protected zones in commercial areas and street corners
Author: Attorney Dennis Schaefer
A recent trend has been to install bright yellow skid resistant zones in commercial settings and on some street corners. Usually these are found in areas where there is a graded approach or exit from the sidewalk. The bright yellow skid resistant zones are installed to create a safer area to walk. There are commonly circular bumps in the area. The skid resistant zones are safer to walk on, however negligent installation of the safety zones creates the danger.
Our client was walking from the parking area towards the store entry. The installation of the safety zone was not done properly. As you approach the front of the store from the parking area and reach the border of the parking driveway and the safety zone a large “lip” exists. To be safe the parking driveway and the safety zone must be flush, with no lip. In this case the lip was over and inch high. This improper installation caused our client to trip and fall forward on her hands and face.
There are many areas of potential danger that we have to face in our daily lives. If you are injured and are unsure as to your recourse, if any, that you might have, call Dell and Schaefer. We will always be happy to consult with you and investigate as to whether recourse exists.
