History of Colonial Insurance Services

In 1882, Colonial Insurance Services was founded by A.B. Day in Mansfield, Massachusetts. He was also the first banker in Mansfield, and is credited with establishing the First National Bank of Mansfield. Day’s son-in-law, Herbert E. King eventually took over the businesses and changed the name of the insurance company to his own. King was not only the president of the insurance company, but treasurer of Mansfield Cooperative Bank and Mansfield Fire Chief until his death in the year 1932.

Through a series of family changes and passing down of the companies, the Herbert E. King companies merged services with Fred E. Willis in 1970. The insurance company was then renamed the New England Security Insurance Agency. Even though the business name was lengthy, the company strived to offer each consumer honest products at competitive and affordable pricing. New England’s policies were open to both private and business individuals.

In 1978, Michael Seifert joined New England Security Insurance Agency and became the official president in October of 1986. By 1994, Seifert also founded the Nurses Insurance Agency, Inc. who devoted their attention to offering personal auto insurance and discount homeowners insurance programs to members of the nursing field.

By 1999, both the New England Security Insurance and Nurses Insurance Agency, were offering discounted auto and homeowner’s insurance policies to the general public as well as different types of insurance policies.

In 2002, the Nurses Insurance Agency and New England Security Insurance became one company known as Colonial Insurance Services, Inc.
