Improperly installed kitchen cabinets

Most of us rely upon the expectations that things will be done properly. We become disappointed if they are not done well. Unfortunately, sometimes we get injured. In the case of home building or interior repairs improper installation can be the cause of serious injury. Dell and Schaefer has represented many different types of these cases. Recently we resolved a case involving improper installation of kitchen cabinets.

Our client purchased a new home from a developer. All of the required inspections were done and our client moved into their new home. Our client’s furniture and other belongings were delivered to the house and the move in process began. The kitchen items including plates and glassware were placed in the cabinets. Most of the heavier items were placed in cabinets hanging from the wall. At no time were there any notices or warnings about weight restrictions or weight distribution, as to any of the newly installed cabinets.

Less than forty eight hours after the placement of items in two sets of hanging kitchen cabinets the improper installation was evident. While standing in the kitchen, our client was startled at the loud noise caused by the cabinets and their contents pulling away from the wall and slamming to the floor. Luckily the full force of this incident did not hit our client. However, her legs were cut from the breaking glass. The cuts necessitated medical care and stiches. The cut also left a four inch visible scar.

Dell and Schaefer were able to obtain a settlement for our client. We demanded money from the builder and in the installers. Please do not hesitate to call Dell and Schaefer to inquire about a possible case.
