Miami Wreck a Tragic Reminder of the Dangers of Bus and Truck Accidents

Three men are in serious condition following a Miami bus accident on June 1, according to NBC News. The accident occurred at around 7:30 a.m., when a Miami-Dade Transit bus collided with a Chevrolet Malibu, which subsequently collided with a third vehicle. The driver of the Malibu, a male, and two other male passengers were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital in serious condition.

Bus drivers are held to many of the same federal laws and regulations as commercial truck drivers under the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). It is likely that officials will investigate this accident, and if this driver or Miami-Dade transit is found to be in violation of federal laws, they will hear from the National Transportation Safety Board.

“Bus operators require government authority, their drivers require professional driver’s licenses, and their customers pay for service,” read a statement on the NTSB website. “As a result, bus passengers deserve and expect the highest level of safety. An important step in improving safety is to ensure that the professional motor coach driver is qualified.”

Bus accidents have the potential to harm dozens of motorists and pedestrians. If the bus driver, mechanic, transit company or third party is found to be negligent in contributing to an accident, it can be held liable for injury, property damage and/or death.
