The victim was pushing his bike out of the southbound lanes of I-95 when a semi-truck ran over him and his bike.

The motorcyclist was killed upon impact. The driver of the semi-truck was unharmed. An investigation into the accident is still ongoing and no charges have been filed at the time of this report.

Large commercial truck drivers can cause serious injury and death to other motorists on the road when they are distracted or reckless. Trucks are particularly dangerous when traveling at high rates of speed on busy roads, due to the fact that they cannot slow down quickly and when traffic begins to change, trucks may run into vehicles in front of them. Negligent passing, speeding and failure to adhere to road rules are also main causes of Florida truck accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 25 percent of truckers that cause fatal accidents had a prior conviction for speeding on their record.
