NO Texting and Driving
Today, Florida has put in place a new law which bans texting and driving.
The new law is not a primary offense, which means an officer cannot pull you over for merely texting while driving. The officer would need to see you violating another traffic infraction while texting i.e. swerving lanes while texting, or speeding while texting. Trust me though, if you are seen by an officer texting and driving, you will be pulled over and you will get a ticket for texting and whatever else the officer decides to write you a ticket for.
There are exceptions such as using a button to enter a phone voice command, checking a map for directions or texting at a stop light. However, please be very careful from now on. The police will be actively seeking out those they believe are texting and driving.
First offense is a fine and court costs, the fines and costs increase with each subsequent offense. Not to mention potential points on your license and attorney’s fees.
Save yourself the hassle and expense of an unwanted traffic ticket. Please be careful. Texting can wait.
