Officials Continue to Investigate Fatal Naples Truck Accident

Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a Naples truck accident on June 23 that claimed the lives of two drivers. A 16-year-old girl had pulled over on the side of Interstate 75 around 3 a.m. when she was hit by a tractor-trailer. The girl had her hazard lights on, but it remains unknown why she had stopped on the side of the interstate.

A southbound tanker truck collided with the minivan and the truck driver was ejected from his vehicle. Both drivers were rushed to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.

A thorough investigation should clear up some of the questions surrounding this tragedy. Why was the young female pulled over on the side of the road so late at night? Why was the truck driver unable to see the vehicle, with flashing hazard lights, and avoid it?

If your car breaks down on an interstate, or any other road for that matter, try to pull it over to the side of the road as far away from passing traffic as possible. If you cannot pull your vehicle away to a safe distance from traffic, it may be a good idea to wait outside the car, away from traffic.
