Police Say Teen was High During Boca Raton Motorcycle Accident
A high school student has been charged with DUI manslaughter after causing a fatal Boca Raton motorcycle accident while high on marijuana. The student hit and killed a 65-year-old motorcyclist while driving under the influence of marijuana in March. The victim leaves behind two children.
Reckless drivers that endanger motorcyclists by driving under the influence often cause Florida motorcycle accidents. According to the Florida Department of Transportation, having alcohol in one’s system increases the likelihood of causing an accident by five times. Motorcyclists are about 35 times more likely to die in a car crash than those traveling in other motor vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Florida motorcycle drivers are typically blamed for accidents; however it is usually other motor vehicles that are responsible for motorcycle accidents. Motorcycles are difficult to see on the road and are often overlooked by other vehicles, resulting in serious injury or even death.
