Hello,
I recently stayed at an Itasca, Illinois Hotel and was attacked by bed bugs. A day later I searched the bed bug registry and found there had been a case there earlier in the year. The Manager confirmed this and sent me to a doctor and paid for my consultation and medication.
I was then contacted by their insurance company, who after some weeks offered me $1250. The remainder of my US vacation was ruined. After six weeks from being bitten, I still have bruising. I have numerous photographs of the bites and copies of the correspondence between myself and the insurance company.
It is difficult for me to obtain legal advice, as I’m an Australian living in Australia. Can you help me?
Kind Regards,
Linda Fountain
Linda,
We would like to discuss to your bed bug claim with you. You have a received a low-ball offer and should reject it immediately. We can be reached at 954-383-7853 and we will email you.
Bed bugs and flea bites. Starting from March-01-2014, bed bugs and flea started attack my unit(#407/) since then each of us have more than 50-70 bug bites and is keep biting us. It seems like we are not the only one who have this problem, and I reported it to the onsite manager and the spread once and nothing else has been done. We had to go see a doctor because of this problem, we can not sleep at night and when we sleep we leave all the lights on over night.
Sung,
You and your group should move out of the property immediately. Based upon the number of bites it sounds as though this is a very bad bed bug infestation. Before moving out of the property make sure to have your belongings treated by an exterminator experienced in treating bed bugs. The last thing you want to do is move out and bring the bed bugs with you. Please contact us privately at 800-383-7853 as soon as possible and we will assist you with your bed bug claim.
My wife and I are staying at the Extended Stay Hotel in Dallas. We found bed bugs in our hotel room. The manager is being very rude and is not wanting to take are of this problem. I look forward to your call.
I stayed in a hotel in Dallas, TX and got bed bug bites. The hotel manager offered me replacement of luggage, so I threw away all my luggage. However, later, their insurance company denied the claim and only wanted to pay the copay of $30 for my doctor visit because of the bed bug bites.
Yang,
It is not a good idea to speak with a representative from an insurance company unless you are represented by counsel. You may something or do something that can negatively impact your case. We need additional information in order to provide you with more direction. Please feel free to contact our office to discuss how we may be able to assist you.
I reported bed bugs in my apartment back in February to manager. Took them 3 days to do something about it. When they finally did get powder around my place they only did that once. Landlord failed to inform other tenants. I no longer stay at my apartment because of problem. All my belongings are still there. Just 2 days ago I stopped by apartment and bed bug landed on me. I contacted landlord and now they were going to do an inspection of building. Today neighbors spoke to me about the problem and repairs not getting done at our apartment complex. I’ve spent plenty of money trying to be proactive on this matter.
Carla,
This sounds terrible. Please call us at 800-383-7853 so we can learn more about your claim.
I stayed in a hotel two days ago. I woke up with all this bites and I actually found the nasty bed bug crawling in the bed. I took a video and pictures. I asked for my money back and they denied. I went to the ER. Can u help?
Sandy,
It is likely we can assist you. Your situation is the type of bed bug case we handle everyday. Please contact us.
My family and I have been staying in a hotel in Alvin Texas and were attacked by bed bugs waking up with bites and even a hospital visit due to a bite becoming infected bite on my finger. After bringing it to the owner/managers attention and basically being shrugged off with the offer of a couple free nights and use of their driers to great our clothes. We took then up on the driers and spent all day treating our things however we called corporate because the way the manager acted not to mention that we were in that room for almost a week and now my severe send, level 1 autistic son is petrified now and I have to check for bug before he will lay down. Okay so now we’re a few doors down and told from corporate to stay until they got back with us on the 23rd however I have watched then treat this room and it was done by them removing the beds and TV from the room and the maintenance man coming in with a Garden sprayer with doors wide open for hours now yesterday they have tried to rebook this room which is crazy and it’s not been treated and after research this same room at this hotel was reported last year for the same infestation. What can I do?
I am dealing with bedbugs and the apartment complex has sent over pest control twice and I am still having a problems because they are in the carpet and I have spoken with management twice about getting new carpet and they refuse. All they want to do is keep sending over pest control which is not working. They are also trying to charge me for treatment when I know for a fact I did not bring them with me. I need help because I feel these people won’t do anything unless I get an attorney involved.
Kayla,
We would like to speak with you immediately. Please call us to discuss your claim as we believe that we can help you.
Tylinn,
If they are not doing Heat Treatment then the exterminator is wasting time. You should move out until the bed bugs have been removed. They will need to bring in a bed bug detection dog to determine if the bed bugs are gone. You can dispute the costs of extermination with your landlord.
I reported to my apartment office that I had found a bed bug. I had been getting a couple bites each night but didn’t know what it was until I actually found one. They are requiring me to sign a waiver which basically relieves them of any responsibility before they will treat. They also are going to charge me for the treatment! I refuse to sign it and I will not pay for it. The building is the reason for the bedbugs not me. They sent an inspector around to each apartment and he told me they had just treated an apartment in the buildi a couple weeks ago. I have tried to treat on my own and haven’t had a bite in over a week. However I cant sleep without taking medication and even then still dream of bugs. I feel like they owe me some respect and consideration which I haven’t gotten. Please help me and tell what my rights are. Thank you.
Terri,
You should not sign anything without review by lawyer. You will give up your rights if you sign a release.
I moved into an apartment complex unit on July 18th, and on the first day my family (myself, girlfriend and 10 month old baby boy) found red bites on us, the very next day we physically found fleas. The fleas have been so bad they infected my girlfriends legs and she sought medical attention because of this, and we both came down with a case of vomiting and diarrhea, my baby had to see a doctor because he was constantly screaming from the bites, and I am currently seeing a therapist because of the depression, anxiety, and paranoid state I am constantly in. We have been losing sleep, and the month that we have been paying to live their my family hasn’t been present because of how bad the fleas are. I can’t watch my boy and girlfriend keep suffering, but I am stuck in this lease and cant move to another apartment unit because all of my furniture is compromised with flea eggs, I need help, and I don’t know what to do!
Timothy,
You need to move out and leave your furniture. It is doubtfult the landlord will come after you for any lease obligation if you document the infestation.
Hello,
My son got over 200 bed bug bites mostly on his legs and hips… After almost 9 months he is still suffering from some allergic reaction and infection. They have been extremely agitating and painful to the point he couldn’t wear pants or go to work. He spent all day caring for them to keep them uninfected and clean and attempt to control the agitation. This has caused alot of anxiety, depression and fatigue having to be indoors mostly and worrying about paying his bills. Most of them are starting to heal but it looks like he might have devastating scarring. He is still in constant pain… but able to wear very baggy pants now… Thank God they didn’t get his face. His life has been drastically impacted almost a year now. Is there any recourse?
Debra,
It is imperative that you contact us immediately to discuss your son’s claim. If we can prove that the hotel knew or should have known of the bed bugs and failed to take the necessary steps, then your son will have a very strong claim. The mere fact that he was bit more than 200 times is indicative of a long-term and entrenched infestation. It is very important that you contact an attorney familiar with bed bug claims as soon as possible, so that all relevant evidence can be collected to support your son’s claim.
I stayed at a motel here in Texas and was bitten probably over 40 times. I did take pictures and seek medical treatment. I retained an attorney but I am very displeased with the way they are handling my case. I did call your 800 number just wondering when I might hear from an attorney.
Ricky,
We are constantly asked to take over claims or lawsuits from attorneys. Furthermore, lawyers around the country often refer us cases or partner up with us. You should hear back from one of our intake specialists or attorneys within 24 to 36 hours. We are very sorry for the delay. If you require immediate attention, don’t hesitate to call the office and ask for me directly.
I recently transferred into another apartment, my four kids and husband. I have never had an experience with bed bugs. The first day we moved in I found one but thought it was a tick. Once I discovered it could have been a bed bug I contacted the office. They sent pest control to inspect. During the inspection he mainly looked at our furniture. Our furniture was delivered from Ashley’s Furniture brand new put of the boxes and plastic. He searched it anyway. Didn’t find anything. A couple of days later everyone had bites. All of my children including the baby. My daughter arm was swollen so big that I had to miss work to take her to the ER. From the bite my daughter scratching she infected her arm. She is currently taking antibiotics. I have numerous pictures of our entire family. I have also contacted the owners. They have yet to respond. I’m also extremely concerned because my furniture is brand new. I have the receipts. I spent a few thousand dollars on a 3 piece living room set and 6 seater dinning tables. Children’s beds and pillow top mattresses. I’m in tears because my kids were so excited about our move and new home. And they are having to suffer.
Courtney,
We have to determine whether the source of the bed bugs is from the new furniture or new home. We have many questions for you and need to speak with you immediately. Please call us at 855-533-5552.
My elderly parents went on a church trip and my mother was attacked by bed bugs. She had loads of bites and had to see her doctor. The doctor gave her several creams and pills to take. She got an attorney that took 10 months to offer her $350 when she didnt accept they dropped her as a client. What can she do? Please help….
Kimberly,
Tell your mother to collect her complete file from the prior attorney. Once she has done so, have her give us a call and we will evaluate her claim.
I stayed in a room at the Americas Best Value Inn in Garden City KS. Was like 2:30am when I started feeling uncomfortable like I was getting bit. Sure enough checked the sheets and saw a bed bugs on sheets. Husband called front office and the lady said to go get key to another room and got a refund for the night. She also said she would call someone else in the morning to get it checked out. I’ve called like 4 attorneys and have not returned my call. Just happened 3 days ago and the bits keep showing up days after. I have pictures and kept a bed bug. Thank you let me know what I can do. Going crazy itching.
Margarita,
First of all you need to get your symptoms under control. The last thing you want is to be left with scars from the bites. As soon as you can make an appointment to see your primary care doctor or dermatologist. If you have a smart phone take many photos of your bites. We will email you shortly to schedule a time to speak about your case.
I just discovered a bed bug infestation in my one-bedroom condo rental in Dallas. How should I proceed with treatment and who pays?
Jill,
Your rental contract is going to define whether the landlord or you has the burden of providing pest control services. If the lease is silent as to who bears the responsibility then the Texas landlord/tenant statues will be the default for determining who has the responsibility. Furthermore, most rental leases require the tenant put the landlord on notice within a reasonable time of any damage to the dwelling. A bed bugs infestation is considered damage. Make sure to put your landlord on notice as soon as possible.
I went to a hotel and a few months in was getting bit. I found out they were bed bugs. When I checked the registry there were no active cases for the hotel. I told the hotel on five different occasions and received no assistance or other accommodations. I went to the hospital. I have severe scarring and now on short term disability due to becoming depressed and diagnosed with PTSD. The doctors have detailed documentation of this. My primary, the hospital and a psychiatrist. I also have pictures of the bed bugs on the wall and the bed they provided. I can’t show my arms due to the bumps, scarring and marks. I feel like bugs are on me all the time. I do not sleep at night. I moved per the recommendation of a lawyer before I could pursue a case. I can’t seem to find lawyers that handle bed bug cases in TX. I have gone onto AVVO and told I have a case and my case is horrific. What can I do?
I work for Supercuts which is ran by a corporation. I had a client sitting in my chair September 15th and I noticed a bed bug crawling on his shirt. I warned the man that it was a bed bug crawling on his shirt and he said, it’s ok, I live with them. I called my manager and she came to see the bug and told him we couldn’t service him. Now this past week, a client set in my chair after sitting on Supercuts upholstery fabric chairs and he had so many bumps on the back of his neck. I told the man about the bumps and he figured it might have been his coat. When I finished cutting the man hair, I took the styling cape off of him and he had a bed bug crawl out of his shirt. His daughter killed the bug. I was terrified and shocked. The next day, I woke up to bites on the back of my legs so I suspected, I have tooken bed bugs home. The next night, my other leg was bitten. I went to the hospital for the bites, I called the district leader and told her about the bites. She told me, the stylist and manager to go buy some bed bug spray and a carpet cleaner and clean the place. Now she telling my manager that she’s NOT calling a exterminator until we try to get rid of any bugs in the store first and for us to bring changing clothes. We all told her we will not do it. I called the city non emergency so they can send out a inspector but I don’t know how long it will take them to come out before she try to have the place exterminated. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I stayed at a hotel last night and I got up with bedbugs bite marks all over my left shoulder. My fiance and I told the front desk and asked for a refund but they didn’t want to refund. I’m in so much pain with these marks and they itch so bad. I took pictures of the marks but forgot to take pictures of the bed. What can I do? Please help
I have lived in my apartment here in Fort Worth, Texas for 3 -4 years and I have had bed bugs three times. The first time I payed Orkin to come and extirminate and they went away for a couple months and then came back. the Second time I had a company called Berrett Pest control caome out and spray and the bugs stayed away for 9 months almost a year and now they have returned. I did not have bed bugs until my downstairs neighbors moved in. I have complained to the landlord and all she does is make me pay and refuse to have Berrett do an inspection of the surrounding apartments. I don’t ever have anyone visit me or have I obtained any new furniture recently. I am getting to the point of becoming an insomniac. CAN YOU HELP ME?
My building mgmt moved me into a new apt after having major waterfall leak in my kitchen that left my apt uninhabitable. I requested via Chicago law that they move me into a new unit that was fit and habitable. Two months later I started getting bites all over my body and the exterminator told me I needed to sleep in the bed to use myself as bate and furthermore it would take three treatments or more every two weeks. The property mgmt is not informing the other tenants and I have lost sleep and this problem has turned my world upside down. Can you please help?
We moved into an apartment in August while we were having a house built. In March of this year, my boys began getting bug bites. The pediatrician said it was scabies so we treated twice but they kept getting more bites. We asked the apartment management to send someone out to look for bed bugs. The manager herself came out and inspected my boys’ room and stated that there was no evidence of bed bugs. She did not send an exterminator to inspect at this time. Another week went by and my boys’ were still getting bites. The pediatrician was at a loss and referred us to a dermatologist. The next day I found a bug crawling in my son’s bed, caught it and took it to the apartment management office. The manager argued with me and told me that it was not a bed bug. Later that evening my husband talked to her and she agreed to have an exterminator come out to inspect. Guess what he found? Bed Bugs!!! It took over a week for them to send someone out to treat the apartment and if my boys’ sleep in their beds they are still getting bit. They have scars on their bodies from a month’s worth of bites. Needless to say, they are sleeping on the couch and we don’t use their bedroom anymore. On top of all of this, the apartments are trying to make us pay for the treatment. I know that in the state of Texas you now have to sign a bed bug addendum but does that give them the right to make us pay for treatment? We don’t travel and were told that they were not checking the other apartments in our building because that would cause hysteria. How can they prove that we are the ones responsible for the infestation? I am at a loss as to what to do and any help at this point would be greatly appreciated.
I have been staying in a hotel in Houston since 21st Dec and had noticed bite marks on us and my children I went down to the front desk a number of times and they said they are mosquitos bites and not to worry about it so I went about my business then I noticed more and more bites and went down to the front desk again and ask did they have any bite cream I could use the front desk said they are bed bugs bites and she straight away did an email to the upper management to have someone come to my room. Well the Operation Manager came in about 2 hours later and said no bed bugs they are mosquitos so I didn’t really think anymore of it cause I have never had bed bugs before then we got sick went to the ER and my daughter and myself had pneumonia asked where I was staying said a extended stay well they told me to do a sample for Mold which I did and the sample was Black and nasty it took 5 days for someone to come down and look for mold when they took the air conditioning apart it was full on mold we had been informing them since we have been here the air conditioning leaks and carpet is always wet. I asked could I move room and no that still hasn’t happened I was speaking to another guest who is a nurse and he stated he just got done with spraying his room for Bed Bugs and told me I should do it since he had seen our bites and said it didn’t look good well I did and they all came out I have bed bugs in a sealed bagged I have now sprayed the room twice and they are coming out had to wash all our linen etc as I had them on my pillow and all over the bed the hotel staff don’t want to know about it please help

The Respected Attorney –
I am Satish living in Knightsbridge Apartments, – TEXAS. for 6 months lease which is going to expire on 06/21/2016.

2. Pest control team came after a week for inspection on 05/06/2016 and we showed the died bedbug (which we captured in a sealed cover) to the pest control team when they come for inspection.
3. Pest control team accepted the bed bug and didn’t identified any root cause of the issue. They did mentioned that this could be because of other units.
4. Got a notification from landlord that pest control team coming on 05/11/2016 along with other units.
5. on 05/11/2016 pest control team has done their work and no information or documentation evidence to show the root cause of the issue.
6. On 05/17/2016, I have got a notification from landlord attached to my door asking me to pay all the costs incurred $1136.63.
7. Pest control team marked my apartment as active and remaining 4 apartments as defensive. There is no evidence submitted to me to prove my house is active.
Concerns:
1. No document evidence on the root cause of the issue that I am the active resident carrying the bedbugs
2. I don’t have at least a bed to sleep and no wooden furniture, no sofa at home
3. Next to our patio we have open space and we always have Pets potty in there and residents not cleaning them. Due to this lot of flies I could physically see. Reported this issue many times to the landlord.
4. Drainage water leaking in the same open place next to my patio and we did complained about this. But no action on it.
5. At the time of first week we joined home I have give lot of complaints on the carpet but no action taken on that.
6. Landlord tried to keep forcing me to extend the lease and calling me day and evenings from the last 4 months and since I have not accepted the extension they were intentionally making me as active house for bed bug issue.
7. The day I joined here with my family they didn’t give car sticker for parking since they missed it (i don’t know that i need a sticker) and my car got towed and payed all the amount ($350+) for releasing my car though I have an email proof from landlord the mentioning the reserved parking lot number. They said sorry but they bribed me and told me that they will cover this in my monthly rental showing that I referred another resident.
Summary: I am very confident that we can win the lawsuit against Kinghtsbridge, – Texas.
Please contact me on my number provided above to proceed on this. Thank you for all help.
Good evening Ms. Satish. Bed Bug infestations in apartment buildings are much different and more serious than those in hotels. This is mostly due to the fact that hotel visits are often short whereas when the infestation reaches your home, your entire life can be disrupted, sometimes permanently. Based on the information provided I would recommend you speak with a Landlord Tenant attorney in your county. Apartment cases can become very complicated and expensive. If you need a referral, please contact our office.
Hello. My name is Marcin. We live in Chicago. We (me, my wife and two kids 9 years old and 18 months old) rent second floor in the house. Few days ago my wife was bathing our 18 months baby then she saw few bites on his back. We thought it’s from mosquitoes. Next day was more. We bought some creme to put on it. Two day ago my 18 months old baby boy had dozen of bites. My wife called his doctor but she was on vacation. She went to another pediatrician but he told her that can not take care of my baby because he is not his doctor. We found one who took care of our baby and she said that my baby was bitten by bed bugs. When we got home we found two bugs under the mattress. My wife called the landlord and told him about bedbugs. He came with his wife. My wife showed him our kids bites. Landlord refused to do something about that and he said that’s not my problem and they told us we have to move out. Yesterday my wife went to the basement to do laundry and the guy who lives there told my wife the landlord used some chemicals in the basement and on the first floor and landlord told them to not say anything about that to us. We need help please.
On 5/28 myself and husband woke to a small black bug on his chest. I flicked the bug off of him just thinking it was a small bug since we was in the mountains at a cabin that was booked through a resort. The bug ended up being a bed bug guess services had a guy to come to the cabin and confirm that it is bed bugs. I hace pictures and videos of the bugs the guy that confirm the bed bug on video and guest services confirming house keeping neglected to clean cabin on video. Have pictures of the bites as well on me and my husband I’ve had a real bad reaction to the bites. I’ve visted 3 medical facilities. I just want to know if your law firm can help me with my case.
Nauseeka, we should be able to assist you. The fact that you have pictures and videos makes for a very strong case.
Hi,
Wondering if you could help us. My friend and I went to a large Amusement Park where they also have accomodations, ie hotel camping and cottages/cabins. The Park is called “Darien Lake” outside of Buffalo.
The first night (July 1, 2016) I felt weird and didn’t sleep well. The second night I didn’t sleep well and got up at 5am and felt like things were crawling on me. I quickly turned on the light and found the bunk bed I was in crawling with bed bugs! I was so upset and freaked out. I woke my friend up who was sleeping with her 12 year old daughter. There were bed bugs in their bed too.
We went to the management who didn’t seem very concerned and gave us a lot of false information. He also said the Bed bug problem is over hyped in the media!
We did research and found out that the cabin next to ours was infested with bed bugs in May 2016. There was also a problem in 2015.
This large amusement park pretended that there wasn’t a bed bug problem and I feel they should be held accountable for hiding such a serious problem and not having their staff look for signs of bed bugs when they were a known problem.
My friend has had a severe reaction with hundreds of bites. I didn’t react but have had a lot of trouble sleeping because I keep waking up and looking for bed bugs with my flash light. This is a nightmare. I am 59 years old and have had major surgery for cancer in the past year. I cannot handle this kind of stress.
We spoke with a lawyer who said they felt it would settle for about $10,000.00 minus the legal fees. I feel that a large multi million dollar amusement park should be held accountable for purposely ignoring this problem and exposing us to the horror of possibly taking home the creatures.
Please advise.
Thank you so much!
Sheila, to give you a proper case evaluation, please contact our office to schedule a phone consultation.
We moved into a weekly hotel on Aug 25th. The second day we woke up, I had a bite on me and my bf had a weird rash looking thing on his hand. Ever since I’ve woken up with a couple bites here and there. I kept assuming they were mosquito bites. Finally today after finding 4 bites located in one area of my arm, I decided to check the bed for bugs, just in case. Sure enough, I found bed bugs. I did some research and found a picture that looks exactly like my BFs “rash” did, turns out it was bed bug bites not a rash. I have multiple bites on my arms and legs, he has a couple. He doesn’t get bit by anything much, not even mosquitoes yet I can get ate up when sitting right next to him. We are going to the front desk later after we inspect more and try to catch one. What should we do? What do we say to the front desk? I’m itchy as sh*” pardon my language and had to go buy sell benadryl itch stuff a few days ago after waking with multiple bites on my ankle. I have taken pics of the bites I currently have and tried to get a picture of the bugs but couldn’t get a good one yet. They’re on a different phone but I can send the pics later in an email. Please help
Patricia,
It sounds like you have a potential case against your hotel. Every hotel owes a duty to their guests to provide a clean and safe environment for the guest to stay in. Make sure you take 7-10 good quality photographs of the bites to preserve as evidence in the case. You should also contact the local health department to conduct an investigation to confirm the presence of bed bugs in the room. Based on the number of bugs in the room, it may be determined how long the infestation has been there. The longer the infestation existed, the harder it will be for the hotel to deny knowledge of its presence. You should absolutely report this to the hotel management and obtain an incident report. You and your husband should check out of the hotel as soon as possible to avoid further attacks. If you choose to stay, you will likely continue to get bit which can have serious adverse effects on your health. Contact us to further discuss your potential case.
I need help I have a bedbug case I have a case number about my case and I don’t like the way that the lawyers are handling it they going to mess it up they’re not doing their job and I’m the one who’s suffering I’m the one who has anything I’m doing is itching for the past year didn’t even on my private areas when I slept naked in hotel room for 27 days please help me

Me,my husband and youngest daughter who is 4 have been recently been ate up with bed bugs that got sent into our home by a Aarons company and we have been cooperating with them very well until 2 days ago they said before they can send Orkin to spray that we have to sign a release form releasing them from any other actions except for a one time Orkin Treatment, they are completely crazy for even thinking this! I actually just got copies of everything and brought home cause its admitting they r what caused this problem for us,and it was right at Christmas time and we all 3 have tons of pictures of bites we received for the 2 weeks the bed was in the house and several scarsl on us unfortunately and I have a 9 and 14 year old daughter that I have only been able to let them stay with us one day which was on Christmas Eve and im so depressed and stressed to the max cause if I were to let them stay here and send one to theirs dads he would fight me for full custody and we currently have joint custody and I have soooo much more stuff I could keep going for days but first I would like to know if you take cases in Franklin Ky ? If you do I would love to tell you the whole story from beginning to end and I can almost bet you would be very much so interested in helping us with this if you take cases in this area! They have no clue yet that we are looking for a lawyer so please let me know soon if you can help us here or if I need to keep searching : (

Please contact us, provide photographs of your injuries and the infestation along with copies of whatever correspondence you have with Aarons. We are happy to help any way we can.
I recently stayed at a Wisconsin dells resort that I have been to many times. During our departure one of the couples staying with us found a bug that resembled a tick. We didn’t think much of the bug found. About 6 days later my 4 year old had bites all over her arms legs and face. I passed it off again as a virus. Then my 6 year old got the same thing also passing it off as just a virus. Well when I finally go bit after putting on a pair of pants I hadn’t worn since vacation I had 5 bites in a matter of minutes. I looked up bed bugs online and was instantly horrified that’s the bug we found. I called the hotel immediately and only got voicemail. The day after someone returned my call and said they wouldn’t be able to check the bed or room until after the guest who were staying in their checked out. I thought this was negligent as a guest I would want to know so I could take precautions when I got home. I was also told that I have to ask them to check a room for bed bugs prior to checking in as it’s not something they do on a regular basis. I was refunded the stay and also given two free nights to go back. The refund isn’t covering my time lost my children’s pain and suffering or the treatment to irradiate our infested home. What can I do?
Ashley, was there a bed bug infestation confirmed at the hotel? If you already came to a settlement with the hotel for your inconvenience, there may not be much else you can do.
5/27/2017: viewed studio apartment…asked if units had ANY bug problems…I was told NO but we have a pest control company that does everything …
5/30/2017: moved into studio apt… filled out inventory form and noted being bits by small undetectable bugs.
5/31/2017- 6/9/2017: bit during night….a few times… I buy Raid spray, clean and mop everything; keep everything in tightly sealed containers…EVERYTHING IS BRAND NEW-NOT SECOND HAND!
6/10/2017-6/11/2017: TORMENTED ALL NIGHT I washed all sheets, blankets and put pillows in high temp dryers. Came home, moped again even sprayed the air mattress I sleep on before I left home…Also sprayed my area rugs.
By the way: I’ve even gone to the office on two different occasions in this 2 week period and reported being bitten… As I write, I am presently awake due to this torment. I have no type of sleep disorders and am a peaceful and joyful person, but I have truly been TORMENTED and interrupted by this fight that I was trying to avoid from even before deciding to move here.
6/9/2017: pest control comes while I am here. He puts something under kitchen sink and another lower counter in the kitchen. He NEVER CHECKS ANY OTHER AREA, CLOSET OR BATHROOM. HE PUT SOME TYPE OF “PEANUT BUTTER BAIT” he says….
Fyi: I checked around to see where these bugs could possibly be coming from…terrible plaster job behind toilet…you can see some type of holed wire bracket where bugs could get through has been poorly or even negligently repaired if repaired at all…pipe hangs out of ceiling in bathroom from upstairs apartment. When they shower, water drips down into my tub and stains tub….I clean the tub twice when this occurs… very unsanitary.. I’m done and have been tormented….please help. I’ve never had to endure this bad when it comes to my personal home sanitation and peace. It’s only been 2 weeks!
I have videos that show more detail if necessary.
Joy, apartment cases are very common, and difficult to treat properly. You should ask your neighbors in the units next to you, above and below you to find out whether there is an ongoing infestation in the building. If you have only been living in the unit for 2 weeks, and there is a persistent bed bug issue, you should explore your options of moving out and speaking to a landlord/tenant attorney to discover whether breaking your lease is an option.
I moved into an apartment with my boyfriend where one of my friends were living in August of 2017. After moving in we were greeted at our front door by an individual from orkin who said he was there to inspect for bed bugs because someone but in a complaint to our front office BEFORE WE MOVED IN!!!! We were not informed about the bed bugs until that day aperently my friend had put in the work order weeks before we moved in and they were just now coming to inspect 2 weeks after we moved in!!! We then waited after we were told one of the rooms was infested and looked like the bed bugs had been there for months for an exterminator to come treat the apartment we called every week up until the day we were evicted because I had to keep going to the doctor and we didn’t want to pay for a place where we were getting sick and couldn’t do anything about it. We had all if our clothes and property cleaned and taken to a safe place that is bed bug free. We live in Tyler TX.
Kala, this sounds like a terrible situation. Are you still living in the apartment? Have you been injured by the bed bugs? There definitely sounds like some liability on the part of the landlord and lack of notice to you prior to moving in. Please contact us to discuss your potential claim.
