History of Safeway Insurance Group

Safeway Insurance Group headquarters are in Chicago, where the company was incorporated in 1959. William J Parillo is, and has been since the company’s inception, the President and Board Chairman.

The company expanded its operations to Louisiana in 1974, Arizona and Texas in 1982, Georgia in 1985, Alabama in 1988, Mississippi 1991 and finally California in 1995.

According to the company’s website, Safeway Insurance is the largest privately held and family-owned auto insurance group in the U.S. The company claims that being privately owned gives both the company, and its more than 2,700 independent brokers, a great advantage over its competitors, as no institutional shareholders are involved. The company has over 450 professional employees and over a quarter of a million policy holders. AM Best, the internationally renowned insurance industry analysts, has graded Safeway as A+ (excellent).

Safeway Auto Insurance

Safeway Insurance offers a wide range of products and services related to private auto insurance. In particular, it offers non-standard auto insurance policies specifically targeted at drivers who are considered to be high risk claimants.

In addition to the basic coverage which is mandatory in each state, Safeway offers auto insurance policies to cover almost any damage, loss and injury, as well as protection for theft and uninsured or underinsured driver claims. Under certain policies, the company will replace your car if it is stolen, pay all costs incurred if you are in an accident with someone who has no insurance and even help with legal assistance should you be involved in a legal claim resulting from an accident.

In certain states, there is coverage available for the rental of a car while your car is either being replaced or repaired. It is to be noted that certain aspects of a policy will have a deductible – an amount decided on when the policy is written – so that if, for instance, you have a $200 deductible on the repair of your car after an accident, you will have to pay the first $200 of the total costs, with Safeway bearing the remaining amount.

The company’s in-house representatives and independent agents are all expected to be knowledgeable about the different laws pertaining to auto insurance in all eight states in which the company operates.

As a motor vehicle insurance company of long standing, Safeway is generally known for settling claims in a fair and prompt manner. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) rates Safeway Insurance Co. as an A company, where the scale is between A+ to F. The company has had 27 complaints over the past three years filed with the BBB of which nine were connected with alleged delays in services. Of the complaints that were not resolve, the BBB concluded that there was no resolution possible.

Safeway Insurance Co. has been in the motor insurance business for more than 50 years. While this isn’t enough to prove its stability and financial good standing, The Best’s Credit Rating is a good indicator of how well the company is doing.
