Teenage Bicyclist Injured by Sarasota Truck Accident
The Herald-Tribune recently reported that a Sarasota truck accident injured a teenage bicyclist. The bike rider’s injuries were serious enough to necessitate an airlift to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg.
The accident took place on July 29th near the Venice Avenue Bridge, which has been cited as an area that needs safety improvements for bikes and pedestrians. Although bike lanes have been proposed for the immediate vicinity, no definite plans have been announced yet.
Bicycles have the same rights to the road as motor vehicles. However, automobile drivers do not always respect the rights of riders, causing bicycle accidents that can result in serious injuries. Although there has been a push for greater awareness about how to safely share the road with cyclists, countless riders are injured and killed every year by car and truck drivers who choose to behave recklessly or aggressively. Even the safest of bicycle riders can suffer catastrophic injuries due to the mistakes or poor decisions of a motorist on the roads of Florida.
