THE YELLOW DOT PROGRAM – Take the time to register when it becomes available

Attorney Dennis SchaeferAuthor: Attorney Dennis Schaefer

The Yellow Dot Program is rapidly spreading throughout Florida. The program, which gives first responders vital health information about automobile crash victims, is already saving lives in several states and is soon expected to improve accident survival rates coast-to-coast for automobile drivers and passengers. On August 3, 2014, the Florida Senate passed SA 262 which authorized all Counties in Florida to elect to implement a Yellow Dot Program. The Act was signed into law by the Florida Governor and now the Office of the Public Safety Director, Florida Department of Transportation will be responsible for whatever action is taken at the State level. It is very important to look for its implementation in your area. The Law Firm of Dell & Schaefer has recently canvassed several counties to be told that the program will be implemented in their areas as soon as funding exists.

The Yellow Dot Program is quite simple. Any person in a county that is participating in the program simply has to follow the guidelines. In essence, a yellow sticker in the shape of a dot is placed on the rear passenger window of your car. This dot signifies that if an emergency situation arises, all vital medical information about the owner/driver of the vehicle is in the glove box. The program provides a simple, yet very informative description of all significant medical information about the participant. This information could save your life.

Look for this program in your county or contact your county manager office for more information.

Kathy T.:

I am hoping Pasco County ( Hudson, Florida ) adopts the “Yellow Dot” program as I am a laryngectomy which means I cannot speak and breath through a trach in my neck. I went to the fire department to give them my name, address and phone number in case I need help and they said they have no where they can list it in case of an emergency which I find unbelievable.

Thanks for listening
