Woman Killed in Bus Accident at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

A 68-year-old woman was killed in a Hollywood bus accident on May 20, according to WSVN news. The Fort Pierce woman was run over by a bus in a freak accident at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, where she was meeting her husband who was flying in. She was getting back into her SUV, which she had parked in a traffic lane just outside Terminal 4, when she was hit.

“She went to greet a passenger that was arriving here,” said Broward Sherriff Fire Rescue Public Information Officer Mike Jachles. “As she was getting back inside the vehicle, it appears she tripped and fell under the wheels of the bus, where she was struck.”

The vehicle that struck the victim was a private charter bus owned by Cabana Coaches that was transporting tourists to Miami.

“Cabana Coaches is fully cooperating with police and other authorities,” read a statement from the motor coach company. “Cabana Coaches wishes to express its sorrow and sympathy to those impacted by this accident.”

If the driver or Cabana was found to be negligent in contributing to this accident, either or both may be on the hook for damages to the victim’s family. It is also possible that the airport terminal was negligent in the circumstances surrounding this tragedy.

“It’s shocking when you’re driving here”, said traveler Angela Santiago. “Traffic was horrible, we have to detour, parking was difficult.”
