Hialeah, Florida Accident Facts
The city of Hialeah, Florida is the sixth largest city in the state. Despite its large size, the city has no skyscrapers. Hialeah remains a richly diverse city just west of Miami. The city can owe its unique character to the fact that Hialeah has the second largest Cuban population in the US. It is home to several home grown companies, such as Sedano’s and serve as the headquarters of the media giant Telemundo.
Hialeah has a large amount of commuters whom rely on the highways and roads to get to work and back daily. Of the over 200,000 Hialeah residents, many drive to work alone daily. This large volume of drivers often causes slowdowns and traffic accidents on the busy roads. Many residents rely on the perennially crowded Palmetto Expressway and Interstate 95 to commute to work and back. In 2008 alone, there were 60 crashes which led to 65 fatalities on the Miami-Dade portion of I-95 alone.
Due to its temperate climate, Hialeah residents enjoy an active lifestyle, which includes swimming, motorcycling, bicycling and other outdoor activities. At times, these activities can be dangerous and accidents do occur. As such, there are many hospitals to serve the population, including Palmetto General and Hialeah Hospital.
